The Workshop
The focus will be on understanding how to allow your body to “be” rather than “trying”, when moving both on land and in the pool. For the Alexander Technique elements, the work will be very practical, using simple movements like walking, and will feed naturally into the swim section of the day. Jenny will also guide you through an ‘active rest’ lying down - a wonderful way of recharging your batteries, and something you can practise at home.
For the Shaw Method elements we'll focus on front crawl, aiming to arrive at a smooth, effortless stroke. We'll do this in the pool and on dry land and Beth will explain, demonstrate, guide you hands on and allow you to explore the progressions on your own.
There'll be both dry land and pool sessions in the morning and in the afternoon. We'll wrap up with a brief get together after the last pool session.
There will be facilities for making hot drinks and the Centre's cafe is open between 09.30 and 13.30.

What to Bring
A packed lunch or food can be purchased in the Centre's cafe, between 09.30 and 13.30. You may want to bring a flask for a hot drink with you, although we will try to make hot drinks available, too.
For the AT part of the day, please bring a blanket, and some paperback books to rest your head on when lying down - slim books are best - about 8-10 cm in total height. Wear loose comfortable clothes - trousers are best.
For the pool work, please bring 2 towels and costumes if you have them, goggles and (if you like) a rash vest or tight T-shirt to stay warm. It will be possible, between pool sessions, to air costumes on poolside railings, although they may not dry between sessions, and will be in an unsecured space.
